Test Development Engineer

General Summary

The Test Development Engineer is responsible for pre- and post-silicon validation of Qualcomm IPs, ensuring they meet new product introduction milestones and are ready for mass production.

This role requires a strong understanding of hardware and software, along with analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. The responsibility involves:

  • Creating test systems
  • Executing tests
  • Troubleshooting issues

Collaboration withQualcomm cross-functional teams, including Digital Design, Analog Design, and Firmware/Software Engineers, is essential to develop and implement IP test and characterisation plans. Focus areas include:

  • Analog/Digital Audio
  • Power Management Units (PMU)
  • Battery chargers
  • Radio and auxiliary functions

The TD Engineer must effectively manage tasks while ensuring timely delivery aligned with business requirements. Proficiency in executing with minimal supervision from senior team members is expected.


Key Responsibilities

Planning and Collaboration

  • Contribute to requirements capture and programme reviews.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and finalise test plans.
  • Identify hardware/software test resources and execution strategies.

Test Development and Optimization

  • Develop and optimize production test solutions for analog and digital IPs across V&M sub-systems.
  • Design and implement hardware/software test systems (with expertise in UltraFlex ATE and related equipment).
  • Utilise standard lab equipment, including:
    • Power supplies
    • Spectrum analysers
    • Signal generators

Validation and Bring-Up Activities

  • Participate in:
    • Pre-silicon emulation
    • Post-silicon bring-up
    • Validation
    • Compliance testing

Design and Analysis

  • Deliver high-quality hardware, software with compliant documentation.
  • Conduct peer reviews on:
    • Test scripts
    • Data analysis scripts
    • Hardware components
  • Develop small geometry digital test suites.

Debugging and Improvement

  • Investigate hardware defects and failure points.
  • Perform issue investigations to improve yield and analytics on:
    • Test time reduction
    • Test program quality

Reporting and Cross-Functional Communication

  • Proactively collaborate with:
    • Digital teams
    • Analog teams
    • Firmware/DFT teams
    • Systems engineers
  • Present and summarise data for technical and program reviews.

Required Skills

Technical Program Skills

  • Proficiency in coding: Python, C, and Visual Basic.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Analog and digital semiconductor circuits
    • Analog and Digital Audio
    • Power Management Units (PMU)
    • Battery charger applications
  • Understanding of Bluetooth radio architectures.
  • Experience with equipment such as:
    • Power supplies
    • Multimeters
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Audio analysers
    • Signal generators

Problem-Solving and Analysis

  • Analytical skills to draw inferences and highlight key findings from datasets.
  • Ability to identify root causes through problem-solving.

Collaboration and Delivery

  • Consistent collaboration across teams to align with program milestones.

Minimum Qualifications

The candidate must meet one of the following educational criteria:

  • A Bachelor's degree in:
    • Computer Science
    • Electrical/Electronics Engineering
    • Engineering, or an equivalent field with 2+ years of experience in Hardware Engineering (or related roles)

OR

  • A Master's degree in:
    • Computer Science
    • Electrical/Electronics Engineering
    • Engineering, or an equivalent field with 1+ year of Hardware Engineering experience

OR

  • A PhD in the same or relevant fields.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience of working in a semiconductor test lab.
  • Experience with:
    • RTL verification
    • UVM/OVM
    • SV assertions
  • Proficiency in software revision control systems, such as:
    • Perforce
    • DesignSync
    • ClearCase
    • ClearQuest
  • Familiarity with Jira for project management.

Minimum Qualification (Local However Compensated Internationally)

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline, from an internationally recognised institution. OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline with at least 1 year relevant experience.
