Test Development Engineer

Copello is recruiting for a Test Development Engineer to join a leading defence engineering organisation based in Hertfordshire (with the option for this role to also be based near Manchester, or Gloucester). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the design, integration and validation of test system hardware solutions while working within a highly skilled and collaborative Test Equipment Design team.

Salary: Circa £43,000, depending on experience

Location: Stevenage (relocation support may be available) - Gloucester or near Manchester also possible location options.

Hybrid Working: A flexible hybrid working arrangement is available where project requirements allow, combining on-site collaboration with remote working.

Security Clearance: Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be British Citizens or Dual UK nationals with British citizenship and be eligible to undergo BPSS security screening. Additional security clearance may be required depending on the project.

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the development of complex test equipment, supporting projects from initial design through to integration, validation and delivery.

  • Working as part of an experienced engineering team, you will contribute throughout the design lifecycle, including participating in design reviews, resolving manufacturing queries, carrying out risk reduction activities, supporting integration and validation, and reporting to the Technical Lead or Project Manager.
  • You'll also have the opportunity to take ownership of defined work packages, manage technical deliveries, and contribute to the successful delivery of innovative engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, integration and validation of test system hardware solutions.
  • Contribute to technical design reviews throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams and resolve engineering queries.
  • Perform risk reduction activities and support system integration and validation.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation.
  • Deliver assigned work packages to agreed cost, quality and schedule requirements.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to achieve project objectives.

About You

We're looking for engineers with a strong background in hardware design and test equipment development, who enjoy working on technically challenging projects.

You should have:

  • Proven experience supporting the design, integration and validation of test system hardware.
  • Knowledge of test methods and techniques across the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience of design proving and performance testing during development.
  • An understanding of environmental and EMC testing during qualification.
  • Strong technical documentation and report writing skills.
  • Experience managing small work packages or technical deliverables would be advantageous.
