FDM Test Engineer Opportunity

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Test Engineer to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Manchester.

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically capable Test Engineer to join an Agile delivery team, ensuring quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle. The successful candidate will combine strong manual testing expertise with modern test automation skills, working collaboratively with developers, product teams, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.

This role requires a proactive mindset, excellent analytical thinking, and the ability to contribute to quality activities from requirements through to production support. The Test Engineer will be expected to understand the wider technical landscape, identify risks early, design effective test strategies, and drive continuous improvement in testing practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion quality throughout the software development lifecycle and actively contribute within Agile delivery teams.
  • Engage early in requirements, design and development discussions to identify risks, clarify assumptions and influence quality outcomes.
  • Design, execute and maintain effective manual and automated testing strategies aligned to business and technical requirements.
  • Develop, maintain and enhance automated test frameworks and test suites using Playwright and TypeScript.
  • Analyse requirements and translate them into comprehensive test scenarios, test cases and test coverage plans.
  • Perform exploratory, functional, integration, regression and end-to-end testing activities.
  • Conduct API testing and validation, including GraphQL and related service integrations.
  • Investigate defects, perform root cause analysis and produce clear, actionable bug reports.
  • Review system architecture, infrastructure and lower-level test coverage to ensure appropriate quality assurance across the solution.
  • Troubleshoot issues using logs, application monitoring tools and cloud-based diagnostics.
  • Design and execute performance testing activities, analyse results and identify performance bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, quality engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives across the team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
