Job Description
ALTEN Ltd is seeking a talented Software Engineer with LabVIEW experience to support the development of advanced electric propulsion technology for next-generation fully electric aircraft.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge engineering programme, combining front-end and back-end development with real-world applications in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment focused on sustainable aviation.
Location: Bicester
On Site: Hybrid (3 days on site)
Clearance: Clearable
Experience Level: Junior to mid (2-3 years)
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain software solutions using LabVIEW and other programming tools
- Contribute to both front-end (UI/UX interfaces) and back-end (core system logic, data processing) development
- Support the design and development of software architecture
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including hardware, systems, and test engineers
- Develop test rigs, data acquisition systems, and automation tools
- Ensure code quality through testing, validation, and documentation
- Support integration and testing activities within a structured engineering environment

Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Proven experience with LabVIEW (essential)
- Strong background in software engineering principles
- Experience in both front-end and back-end development
- Knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems is highly desirable
- Familiarity with languages such as Python, C/C++, or similar is a plus
- Experience working in engineering, aerospace, automotive, or other high-tech industries
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- Proven hands-on experience with LabVIEW (essential)
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices
- Experience in both front-end and back-end development
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, engineering-driven environment
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems
- Familiarity with Python, C/C++, or similar programming languages
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, or other high-tech industries
- Experience with electric motors, power electronics, or embedded systems
- Understanding of real-time systems and hardware integration
- Knowledge of verification & validation processes
- Exposure to agile development methodologies
