CloudMargin
CloudMargin is an award-winning, growth-stage FinTech company offering an innovative Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) service. We are rapidly challenging the way financial and corporate institutions manage the collateral and risk associated with derivatives trading. We believe in offering our community an affordable, easy-to-deploy, and scalable service.
Backed by professional investment, our global team works closely across product, technology, and sales disciplines. Our flat structure and ethos of openness and communication means you’ll be engaged with everyone in the business and have the senior leadership team as one of your key stakeholders.
Role Overview
As a Test Engineer, you will work within an Agile/Scrum team to contribute to the delivery of CloudMargin applications. You will be responsible for quality within the development team, whilst also contributing to a wider Test Strategy within the CloudMargin Test community. You will help the team set the best testing strategy for each project and build the automated tooling associated with it, primarily using Playwright.
As our engineering practice increasingly adopts AI tooling, you will help shape how we use AI responsibly in testing over time – always with human judgment owning the quality signal that gates a release.
This is a hands-on testing role: setting test strategy, writing clear test plans, and building and maintaining reliable automation alongside thorough exploratory and manual testing. Your impact is measured on real product quality outcomes: iterations that are safe to release and a quality signal the team can trust.
Over time, you will help the team adopt AI-assisted testing practices as they mature, contributing to how we evaluate and introduce them safely.
Experience
- 2+ years or equivalent experience in software testing / QA
- 2+ years or equivalent experience with web technologies
- Hands-on E2E automation experience with Playwright, Cypress, or a similar modern framework
- Experience testing APIs and backend services (Postman, REST clients, or similar)
- Exposure to AI-assisted development or testing tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Playwright MCP, or equivalent) (desirable)
- Experience in a regulated or financial-services environment (desirable)
Role Scope
You will own quality within your Scrum team, responsible for the testing strategy, the automation behind it, and the judgement call that each iteration is safe to release.
Test Strategy & Planning
- Set the testing requirements for projects delivered by your Scrum team, and contribute to the wider CloudMargin Test community and Test Strategy
- Write clear and concise test plans that may translate into complex procedures for a distributed architecture
- Plan and coordinate the team’s testing activities so every iteration is safe to release
Automated Testing
- Build and maintain E2E and API automation with Playwright, including fixtures, parallelization, and trace-based debugging
- Keep automated suites fast, deterministic, and trusted – managing flakiness so recurring failure modes are designed out, not patched over
- Integrate automation into CI/CD quality gates so quality feedback is early and continuous

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Quality & Verification
- Apply the full range of testing techniques – exploratory, regression, smoke, usability, security, and performance – where automation alone is not enough
- Coordinate the team’s efforts to ensure iterations are safe to release, owning the go / no-go quality signal
- Lead the ethos of quality and inspire teammates
Moving Towards Agentic Testing
- Experiment with AI-assisted test creation and maintenance (e.g. Playwright MCP, AI coding assistants) as the team adopts these practices, always reviewing and owning the output
- Help evaluate where AI agents can safely take on test generation and maintenance work, and where human-crafted testing remains essential
- As AI features appear in the CloudMargin product, contribute to how we test them – including evaluation approaches for non-deterministic behavior
Judgement & Governance
- Treat verification, not test count or implementation speed, as the measure of done
- Never trust unverified output – whether written by a person or generated by a tool
- Keep release, risk-acceptance, and quality sign-off decisions under human ownership
Collaboration, Knowledge & Mentoring
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product, and tech leadership to align on the best approach to quality
- Document test strategy, decisions, and their reasoning so knowledge is explicit, shared, and durable rather than locked in one person’s head
- Share testing practice across the team and help raise the bar on quality and verification
Ways of Working
- Work within Agile/Scrum ceremonies, keeping testing visible and planned rather than an afterthought
- Keep test cases, results, and defects tracked in one place rather than scattered across tools
- Continuously improve tooling, process, and your own practice as testing techniques evolve
Skills
- Software testing techniques and methodologies (regression, smoke, exploratory, usability, security, performance)
- Ability to debug code and script in JavaScript / TypeScript
- Playwright (or a similar modern E2E framework) and UI E2E testing
- Postman or other backend / API testing tools
- CI/CD pipelines and quality gates; exposure to distributed systems and modern web hosting, particularly using AWS
- Interest in AI-assisted testing: test generation with AI assistants, Playwright MCP, or similar (desirable)
- Awareness of how LLM-powered features are tested, e.g. evals and handling non-determinism (desirable)
- Agile manifesto and SCRUM
- Sound judgment on what to automate and when to keep a human in the loop
- Proactive and collaborative “we” before “I”
- Proficient written and verbal communication
- Passion for delivering high-quality software and a positive approach to continuous improvement
