Job Description

We have an opportunity for a Test Engineer Apprentice to join our Technology and Innovation team in Slough. Our Innovation team are involved with research and development, driving the future products through to the consumer market.

As an Apprentice you will be involved in supporting the team working alongside experienced Test Engineers and Project Engineers, performing activities including the build, test and development of new products and Root Cause Analysis projects. Gaining an understanding and learning the mechanical build of a seal, and testing on multiple different test rigs and gain a deep understanding of the mechanical principles of how and why they work the way they do. You will also learn about 3D modelling and prototype machining.

As part of this 4 year programme you will be rotated through and learn from our gas seals engineering solutions team. This role is based from our headquarters within Slough working Monday to Friday normal office hours.

Full training will be given so you will be able to:

  • Build multiple types of seals
  • Run tests on high performance test rigs
  • Be able to do CAD designs for continuous improvements
  • Fault find and problem solve on technical issues, both seals and rigs
  • Data analysis from tests and recommending engineering improvements
  • Manage key projects from conception through to completion. Ensuring key milestones are hit and project delivers objectives on time and within cost
  • Support and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders within JC Slough

What We Offer

Education

  • You will be enrolled onto the Level 6 Manufacturing Engineer Degree Apprenticeship which will be delivered one day a week on campus by our training partner: The University of Hertfordshire. If you successfully complete your Apprenticeship you will be awarded a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering.

Qualifications

Entry Requirements

  • 5 GCSEs. Grade 5 or above to include English and Maths
  • UCAS Points: 120-128. A minimum of three A-Levels at grade B or above, including a maths-based subject and a science, technology or engineering subject or
  • An Engineering BTEC Level 3 with at least 120 credits at DM level or above. CTECs and T-Levels also considered or EAL Diploma in an engineering-based subject at D (Distinction) level

  • Committed to learning and working at the same time
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Decision making ability and good influencing / team working skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Time management and organisational skills
