MBDA is offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Test Equipment Design Engineer to join their Production Design Support Team. This role will involve playing a leading role in engineering activities, providing design support to manufacturing, and broadening expertise in an international environment—an exciting career path awaits!


About the Role

  • Job Title: Test Equipment Design Engineer, Production Design Support
  • Salary: Up to £52,500 (dependent on experience)
  • Working Model: Hybrid (4–5 days per week on-site) due to workload classification
  • Nationality: British citizen or dual UK/British national only (due to security clearance requirements)
  • Security: All successful candidates must undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team (post-offer).

The Opportunity

MBDA in Bolton is hiring an experienced Test Equipment Design Engineer to support production activities within Production Design Support (PDS). This role offers:

  • A proactive interface between design and manufacturing teams, collaborating with other support engineers.
  • Engineering challenges while fostering personal growth across multiple disciplines.

  • Designing and supporting test equipment and systems during the manufacturing phase of the product lifecycle.
  • Providing knowledge transfer between design and manufacturing teams, acting as an engineering advocate.
  • Demonstrating passion for innovation and collaboration in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Working autonomously on projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring cost-efficient solutions.
  • Investigating root causes of design issues and proposing robust corrective actions.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and technicians.

Core Specialisations

Proven experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • RF and Antenna Design
  • Electrical Architecture
  • Design for Safety and Integrity
  • RF Test and Measurement Principles

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent industry experience) in engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing products/systems or supporting manufacturing phase designs.
  • Clear delegation of responsibilities and critical negotiation/influencing skills.
  • Ability to write concise engineering documentation.
  • Track record of cost-effective solution delivery and work package management.
  • Full Product Lifecycle (PLM) knowledge or working understanding.
  • Commitment to ** mentorship** of other engineers/technicians.

Competencies & Skills

  • **Strong,

--Technical expertise in RF, electronics, or mechanical design.

  • Enhanced problem-solving with investigative skills for design failure analysis.
  • Team player within a substantial engineering organisation.
