Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment, plant, services, and building installations to a high standard in line with best practice, HS&E and quality requirements. Daily the role supports safe and efficient production by responding to technical issues, carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), performing equipment calibrations and ensuring the reliability of electrical and mechanical services.

The role also involves contributing to projects and improvement activities of moderate complexity, working under supervision with progress reviewed at key milestones and/or on completion by Senior Management.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Production Support

  • Respond to breakdowns and technical issues, minimising production downtime.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out safe, timely repairs on plant, equipment, and building services to return equipment to operational service.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and complete scheduled work orders.
  • Assist with the installation, movement, and repositioning of machines and equipment.
  • Support specialist engineers and contractors when required.
  • Use the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record and track maintenance activity and track key performance indicators.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with quality requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised workplace in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures. Always ensuring use of required PPE.
  • Escalate any issues that may present a risk to people, equipment, or production, including reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.

Planning, Projects, and Continuous Improvement

  • Prioritise workload effectively to support production and maximise working time.
  • Estimate job duration and identify the impact of delayed completion.
  • Assist in developing and improving PPM schedules.
  • Contribute to special projects and continuous improvement activities.
  • Prepare reports and provide progress updates at project meetings.
  • Keep up to date with current maintenance and engineering practices.

Teamworking and Communication

  • Liaise effectively with internal departments and external suppliers.
  • Communicate clearly across all functions to support operational performance.
  • Lead and support trainee engineers as required.
  • Support training and development within the work group.

Qualifications And Experience

  • ONC, A Levels, City & Guilds level 3, BTec National Diploma Level 3, IVQ Technician Diploma or equivalent NVQ level 3 qualification.
  • Understanding and application of safe working practices such as lock out tag out.
  • Practical hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Mechanical, electrical, electronic or software background with understanding of wiring diagrams and electrical fault finding.
  • Substantial experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
  • Commercial understanding of the impact of failure/downtime on production and ultimately customer delivery.
