Exciting Opportunity: Design Authority (DA) for Test Solutions – Permanent Role

We’re seeking a talented and experienced Engineer with an eye for detail and the drive to make ethical, high-impact decisions.
Leonardo’s modern and purpose-built £885 million Luton site (Capability Green) offers a rewarding opportunity for a Design Authority (DA) for Test Solutions—working on cutting-edge, complex electronic Optical, RF, Digital, and Analog-based Test Solutions across the entire life cycle with hands-on design experience.
About the Role
As a Design Authority, you will:
- Lead and oversee the technical authority, compliance, and Quality Assurance (QA) for Defence-related Test Solutions
- Own a product or team portfolio (performing senior technical authority for assigned capabilities)
- Ensure technical concurrence and compliance with Defence, company, and customer requirements for Electronic Warfare (EW), cybersecurity, and complex systems testing
- Support delivery engagement for complex field aspect development and qualifying operations
- Contribute actively to requirement definition and management with experience in creative design (lab-based EW and simulation and electronic mission systems testing)
Responsibilities
Core Duties & Accountabilities
- Familiarise yourself with Defence-related technological solutions and ensure alignment with EW techniques
- Define, develop, and manage test requirements (familiarity with DOORS would be beneficial)
- Collaborate on full-life-cycle Test Solution development and implementation, from design to validation
- Lead and chair design reviews to ensure technical authority and best practices
- Apply expertise in hardware and software design for advanced testing environments
- Write, test and manage code using LabView and TestStand (familiarity with ATLAS and C programming desirable)
- Ensure requirement verification and compliance across all phases of Test Solutions development
- Maintain awareness of legislative and industry standards (electrical, chemical, and electromagnetic compatibility)
- Address Cyber Security considerations in the design and integration of Test Solutions
- Interface with subcontractors and coordinate cross-functional teams
- Adhere to export compliance regulations

Requirements & Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Multi Physics, or Electronic Engineering
- Hands-on experience designing complex Test Solutions for electronic systems
- Experience leading QA, Chairman of Design Reviews, and hands-on requirement lifecycle, verification management, and expert product testing
- Possess knowledge of doctrinal requirements (where applicable for Mine Clearing/TSCM/Submarine applications) and industrial standards
- Proven ability to manage geopolitical and commercial sensitivities (DUAL-USE dual sources, government investment, TSCM/etc.)

Additional security clearances may apply, possibly requiring Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) under National Security Vetting (NSV).
