A Fantastic Opportunity for a Theatre Anaesthetic Practitioner
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated theatre anaesthetic practitioner to join our theatres as a team leader in anaesthetics. You will specialise as a senior anaesthetic practitioner within both obstetric and gynaecological theatres.
About the Role
We are looking for forward-thinking and highly motivated staff who can take the lead, acting as a role model to junior staff and facilitating new initiatives, change, and policy development. Previous obstetric experience is desirable, and applicants must have significant theatre experience.
On-Call Requirements
Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust operates an On-Call service to ensure continuous, safe care for patients at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. Staff members who are required to participate in the On-Call rota must be able to attend the hospital within 30 minutes of being called and therefore must live within a travel distance that allows them to reach the hospital within a 30-minute journey time.
Where this is not possible, individuals may make alternative arrangements to ensure compliance with the 30-minute requirement, for example temporarily staying with a friend, family member, or in other suitable accommodation located within close proximity to the hospital. Any such arrangements would be at the individual’s own expense.
Responsibilities
- Function as the lead practitioner for an operating theatre or a designated area, acting as a role model for the clinical team.
- Demonstrate ability to function competently both as a leader and as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in the anaesthetic rota and be the lead practitioner when on duty and co-ordinate in Obstetric Theatres when required.
- Act as a resource person to others, providing advice and support to the MDT, patients, and relatives.
- Assist in the management of the theatres to ensure excellence in patient care and to have responsibility for staff and service development.
- Develop the clinical protocols and SOPs.
- Contribute to an effective, motivated, and competent workforce and ensure that high-quality standards are maintained and developed.
- Contribute to the development of performance review in accordance with Trust policy. Be receptive to change with the Department and encourage new ideas and developments.
- Demonstrate people management skills, delegation, negotiation, and assertiveness as appropriate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
