Theatre Practitioner

Role Overview

The Permanent, Full-Time Theatre Practitioner position at The Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester offers a 37.5-hour flexible shift pattern, as part of Circle Health Group, Britain’s leading provider of independent healthcare.

Responsibilities

The successful Theatre Practitioner will be expected to:

  • Support the surgical team:
    • Prepare instruments and maintain sterility
    • Anticipate surgeon needs while ensuring patient safety & equipment safety
  • Collaborate with anaesthetists:
    • Assist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning
  • Provide post-operative care:
    • Monitor vital signs
    • Manage pain and nausea
    • Ensure patients are ready for discharge
  • Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control protocols
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient needs
  • Inspect surgical & anaesthetic equipment prior to use—reporting any faults immediately
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to optimise safe and efficient surgical lists
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment

Requirements

  • Must hold NMC registration as a Registered Nurse or HCPC-registered Operating Department Practitioner
  • Experience (or relevant training) in a theatre environment, preferably specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Infection control
    • Manual handling techniques
    • Patient safety principles
  • Unwavering commitment to working under pressure, problem-solving, and adapting swiftly to a dynamic environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal & communication skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and adherence to safe surgical practice
  • Essential: Prior experience in major orthopaedic scrub and SFA (Superficial Femoral Artery)
