Theatre Practitioner – Recovery

Bishops Wood Hospital Middlesex

Contract:

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Permanent
  • Flexible shift pattern

Salary: Up to £39,000.00 per year (depending on experience, training, and qualifications)

Join our Theatres Department as a Theatre Practitioner in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where precision and teamwork are paramount.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support Surgical & Anaesthetic Teams:

    • Assist surgeons with instrument preparation, maintaining sterility, anticipating needs, and ensuring surgical equipment safety
    • Support Anaesthetists in patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning
    • Facilitate pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care
  • Operational Duties:

    • Follow infection prevention and control policies at all times
    • Set up and configure operating theatres based on surgery type and patient needs
    • Conduct pre-use checks on surgical and anaesthetic equipment, reporting faults promptly

  • Patient Care & Safety:

    • Monitor post-operative vital signs
    • Manage pain and nausea relief
    • Assess discharge readiness
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Work multidisciplinary to ensure safe and efficient surgical lists
    • Promote a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment

Role Requirements

  • Qualifications & Registration:

    • Qualified Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC)
  • Experience & Skills:

    • Experience or training in theatre recovery, scrub, anaesthetics, or related specialties
    • Proven infection control, manual handling, and patient safety expertise
    • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and act decisively in fast-paced scenarios
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Attention to detail and commitment to safe surgical practice
