Theatre Practitioner - Scrub (Bank)

About the Role
The Chiltern Hospital seeks a Theatre Practitioner (Scale) for a banking role. This position operates on an "as and when required" basis to:
- Support staffing levels during peak periods
- Provide cover for annual leave/absence in the Theatre Department
A competitive hourly rate (up to £25 per hour) is offered, dependent on individual experience, training, and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Surgical & Anaesthetic Teams:
- Prepare surgical instruments and maintain sterility protocols
- Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure equipment safety
- Assist with anaesthetic equipment preparation, patient positioning, and airway management
- Provide post-operative care, including:
- Monitoring vital signs
- Managing pain and nausea
- Ensuring patient readiness for discharge

Theatre & Infection Control:
- Set up operating theatres according to specific patient requirements and procedure types
- Check and test all surgical/anaesthetic equipment pre-use; report faults immediately
- Strict adherence to infection prevention standards

Team Collaboration:
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe and efficient surgical lists
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive theatre environment
Essential Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Qualification:
- Registered Nurse (NMC) or
- Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC)

- Prior experience/training in at least one theatre area:
- Scrub
- Anaesthetics
- Recovery

- Strong infection control, manual handling, and patient safety knowledge
- Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and adapt to fluctuating demands
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
