Theatre Practitioner Scrub - Orthopaedics/Spinal

Theatre Practitioner (Scrub Nurse) – Orthopaedics/Spinal

Location Cromwell Hospital, London, SW5 0TU (5-minute walk from Earls Court underground/7-minute walk from Gloucester Road underground)

Contract Permanent

Salary £37,080 to £46,890 per annum, plus fantastic benefits

Hours Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Shift Pattern

  • Long shifts: 07:30–21:00
  • Early shifts: 07:45–15:45
  • Late shifts: 13:00–21:00

Attraction/Relocation Support

  • £3,000 Golden Hello available
  • Up to £5,000 towards domestic relocation costs (if applicable)

The main adult theatre here is a busy and dynamic environment, setting the benchmark for clinical excellence across:

  • 6 operating suites catering for Cardiac, Orthopaedics, ENT and Ophthalmic, Da Vinci Surgery, Thoracic and Liver, Plastics, General/Vascular, Urology, and Gynaecology.
  • Expert surgeons specialising in both simple and complex procedures.

You will work alongside the best in their specialities to deliver high-quality care.


Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care in a pleasant environment for both staff and patients.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility and supporting shared tasks.
  • Assist in patient positioning and preparation, ensuring proper handling as directed by the surgical team and correct specimen labelling/dispatch.
  • Provide immediate post-operative care.
  • Oversee the clinical theatre area in the absence of an advanced practitioner, ensuring safety for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Adhere to supplies usage procedures and departmental ordering requirements, as directed by the line manager.
  • Accurately collect data relating to theatre activities.
  • Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate peri-operative patient care.
  • Prepare patients for clinical/operative procedures, including anaesthetic and surgical interventions.
  • Delegate and supervise junior grades, unqualified, and less experienced staff.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • NMC-registered Adult/Nursing or Children’s Nurse (preferred).
  • Alternatively, HCPC registration with either:
    • A Diploma or Degree in Healthcare Studies
    • An ODP Level 3 NVQ
    • ODA 752 qualification
  • Essential: Previous perioperative experience in Orthopaedics/Spinal theatre.
  • Desirable: Experience with Da Vinci robotic surgery or liver procedures.
