Role Overview

Do you have a background in SEMH, SEBD, or ASD? Have you had experience with challenging behavior? Do you have Team Teach or MAPA training? Have you covered lessons? Experience tutoring or teaching small groups?

This specialist school based in North West London is looking for a special needs Therapeutic Education practitioner with experience of working with challenging children and young people. This is a specialist PRU school that caters for young people who have been excluded or at risk of being excluded from a mainstream school.

About the Role

Therapeutic Education practitioners will have the opportunity to work in this outstanding school with an international reputation in special education expertise, curriculum, and resources.

Therapeutic Education practitioners must have experience working with mental health problems and complex SEN needs.

This school believes that all young people should be provided with appropriate education in a safe, stable, containing learning environment.

Special needs Therapeutic Education practitioners will be working with secondary-aged pupils who have SEMD, SEBD, troubled behavior. Some students are academic and they range from KS2 to KS4.

Therapeutic Education practitioners are given opportunities to succeed through the use of highly personalized individual education plans to help support their students.

The Therapeutic Education Department works closely with the nurses, doctors, and therapists at the center and with a wide range of professionals in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Behavior Management: Therapeutic Education practitioners will need excellent behavior management skills.
  • Relationships: Be able to build positive relationships with young people and staff.
  • Teaching: Therapeutic Education practitioners need to be able to teach/cover a range of lessons when needed.
  • Experience: Good knowledge/experience working with children with SEMH within a special needs environment.
  • Collaboration: Therapeutic Education practitioners will need experience working with secondary-aged pupils.
  • Curriculum Activities: Therapeutic Education practitioners will be collaborating with the classroom teacher to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum.
  • Assessment: Assessing children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and working with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs.
  • Liaison: Liaising with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists.

Job Details

This is a full-time/long-term position and will lead to permanent if successful.
