Are You a Life Changer?
Do you want to transform the life of a child?
Compass Community puts children first through our therapeutic, innovative approach. Integrity, Courage, and Care shape how we work—we listen deeply, challenge each other, and fix what needs fixing, together.
This is the work. And we’d like you to be part of it.
Who We Are
Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), such as:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Communication difficulties
As a trauma- and attachment-informed organisation, all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and support.
With a closely triangulated approach, we place the child at the centre of decision-making. This ensures that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams, and our students work together to achieve outstanding outcomes.
The Role: Therapeutic Pastoral Lead
Compass Community is a therapeutic school that believes in a healing approach to supporting and modifying challenging behaviours. The Therapeutic Pastoral Lead will:
- Embody, lead, and facilitate this approach in our schools, working holistically.
- Be a key member of the local leadership team, with co-management from Regional SENCOs and the Therapeutic Development Manager.
- Work alongside school leadership to advance the organisation’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Maintain calm and sensitivity during periods of potential dysregulation.
- Demonstrate experience in de-escalation and a deep understanding of key theories and frameworks for supporting children emotively.
- Undergo Continued Professional Development (CPD) in the Assessing and Healing Childhood Trauma (AHCT) approach.
- Lead and facilitate therapeutic intervention groups with young people.
- Model best practice in therapeutic interactions for education staff.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
