Are You a Life Changer?
Do you want to lean in and transform the life of a child?
Compass Community puts children first through our therapeutic, innovative approach. Integrity, Courage and Care shape how we work. We listen deeply, challenge each other and fix what needs fixing, together.
This is the work. And we’d like you to be part of it.
Who We Are
Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), such as:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Communication difficulties
The work we do is both varied and challenging. As a trauma- and attachment-informed organisation, all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and support.
Our closely triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision-making, ensuring education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and – most importantly – our students can work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all.
The Role: Therapeutic Pastoral Lead
We are a therapeutic school and believe in a healing approach to addressing and modifying challenging behaviour. Our Therapeutic Pastoral Lead needs to embody, lead, and facilitate this within our schools by working holistically.
Therapeutic Pastoral Leads are part of our leadership group, acting as a key member of the school’s local leadership team. They are co-managed by Regional SENCOs and the Therapeutic Development Manager, and this position is viewed as integral to the school’s community.
Key responsibilities include:
- Being a calm, sensitive professional capable of handling potential dysregulation effectively.
- Experienced in de-escalation, with a working and practical knowledge of key theories and frameworks of interventions to emotionally support children.
- Supporting the school’s Assessing and Healing Childhood Trauma (AHCT) approach through training and advice.
- Promoting our fighting approach to ensure all education staff understand how this supports students.
- Running meaningful intervention groups with young people and modelling therapeutic interactions and best practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
