Third In Charge – Haddenham Day Nursery

About the Role

Title: Third in Charge Salary: £32,448 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience) Hours: 40 hours per week | Monday–Friday | Permanent Location: Haddenham, Buckinghamshire

The recently opened nursery (September 2021) is Ofsted-rated Outstanding, featuring five spacious rooms, a large garden, and an external balcony area with excellent views. Just six miles from Aylesbury and seven miles from the M40 junction 7, it’s ideally located with good transport links, onsite parking, and nearby amenities—including a supermarket just next door!


Core Responsibilities

As Third in Charge, you will:

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team to deliver exceptional care and early years education
  • Ensure child welfare, health, safety, and safeguarding are prioritised
  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead when required
  • Foster strong partnerships with colleagues, parents, and professionals to meet individual child needs
  • Promote the nursery to enhance retention and occupancy
  • Engage with the Local Authority to support best practices across all nursery services

Requirements

To excel in this role, you must have:

  • A full and relevant Level 3 or above Early Years qualification
  • Previous experience in an Early Years setting, ideally as:
    • Third in Charge
    • Room Leader
    • Early Years Educator
  • Ability to make confident, informed decisions and support team members
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Safeguarding and child protection
    • Legislative requirements for working with children
  • Excellent communication skills with:
    • Children
    • Colleagues
    • Parents and carers
  • Experience building trust and professional relationships with stakeholders
