Product Line Engineering Manager UK

Business Unit: Systems and Support
Function: Engineering

The engineering team plays a significant role in solving these challenges and has the following core purpose:

  • To develop new products
  • Maintain program schedule & budget
  • Propose & win new contracts
  • Support existing products & customers

Position Summary

The Product Line engineering manager is a leadership position within the engineering team and is responsible for functional performance in some or all of the following areas:

  • Contribution to new business proposals – proposing and winning new contracts.
  • New Product development of proprietary products and introduction to the supply chain.
  • Maintain program schedule and budget.
  • Engineering support to existing, in-service products and customers.
  • Technology acquisition and maturation prior to new business development.

The role is part of the engineering leadership team and necessitates a collaborative and team-based approach to delivering tangible results.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for aligning resources within their control with the engineering team strategies, to meet both short term and long-term business objectives.
  • Responsible for the development of the human capital in the team. Includes load vs capacity analysis, recruitment, motivation, teaching, development and performance assessment of team members, addressing employee relations issues and resolving problems.
  • Responsible for new business proposals. Includes proposal development, market awareness, customer relationship building, and developing new strategies for winning new contracts.
  • Responsible for new product development from contract award through to introduction of new products in the supply chain. This requires measuring and meeting cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Responsible for in-service engineering support to our products. Includes concession support, failure/problem identification and in-service issue resolution.
  • Responsible for technology acquisition and maturation. Market trend analysis, gap identification, strategy planning and maturation of technology to acceptable risk levels.
  • Responsible for contributing to the development measures that allow the health of the key business processes to be assessed, meet or exceed goals, and improved. Additionally, development of people in the measuring, reporting, and lean execution tools to drive continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for supporting, attaining, maintaining and improving necessary certifications and approvals and associated processes and procedures.

General Requirements Of The Individual

Specific Requirements Of The Individual

  • Degree qualified or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years aerospace/defence (ideal) engineering experience sufficient to build domain expertise.
  • Collaborative, team player. Able to interact effectively and deliver results through people.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication.
  • Professionalism in dealing with adverse or difficult situations.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Experience in Lean and/or Six Sigma.
  • UK driving licence holder.
  • Able and willing to travel domestically and internationally.
