MKM is the leading independent builders’ merchant in the UK, established in 1995. As we continue to grow, we’re searching for a passionate, energetic, and proven Hire Account Manager to help us expand our customer base and reach even greater success.

This role is critical to the efficiency of our Tool Hire operations, where your key responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Management
- Generate new business and expand existing customer accounts through outstanding customer service.
- Build and maintain profitable customer relationships, ensuring satisfaction, resolving complaints effectively, and promoting MKM as the merchant of choice in your area.
- Process sales orders and delivery schedules with accuracy and promptness.
- Provide specialist product advice and ensure up-to-date knowledge is applied in conversations.

Operational & Financial Management
- Day-to-day management of the depot site, including:
- Overseeing team performance
- Ensuring stock levels are optimised
- Conducting weekly/monthly sales and stock reporting
- Managing cash/till and card payment processing
- Inventory control:
- Verify incoming goods against delivery tickets
- Participate in regular stock takes
- Maintain accurate maintenance records for hired products
Health & Safety Compliance
- Uphold safety for yourself, colleagues, and customers—Health & Safety certification is essential.
- Ensure all hired products meet maintenance and safety requirements.
- Follow Tool Hire H&S procedures rigorously.
Administration & Support
- Prepare and coordinate Tool Hire reports (focus on Health & Safety compliance).
- Support company initiatives aimed at improving customer experience.
- Communicate local market insights to help drive strategic growth.
Corporate Reputation & Service Excellence
- Deliver all responsibilities with integrity, ensuring the company maintains a strong reputation.
- Safely load/unload equipment while adhering to company standards.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Full, clean driving licence (a preference).
- Market/product knowledge in the hire sector.
- Experience in a sales/customer-facing role with a proven track record.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Flexible, proactive, and team-oriented.
- Excellent organisation and stock management skills.

Desirable (but not mandatory)
- GCSEs (or equivalents) in Maths and English.
- IT literacy (familiarity with common office software).
- Working knowledge of relevant H&S legislation.
