Tool Hire Driver / Fitter

Main Purpose

To assist in the efficient running of Tool Hire by building relationships with customers and staff to achieve maximum sales potential and customer service excellence. Promote MKM to be the merchant of choice within your geographical area.


Key Responsibilities

Sales & Service

  • Build and maintain profitable customer relationships, including resolving complaints, processing orders, and ensuring safe loading and unloading of small plant, tools, and alloy towers.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in sales orders and delivery scheduling.
  • Manage end-to-end customer experience, including technical problem-solving, fault reporting, and repair coordination.
  • Provide efficient, friendly, and exceptional customer service throughout the working day.

Supporting Company Initiatives

  • Represent the company by meeting diverse customers and travelling to different locations as required.
  • Coordinate and advance Tool Hire reports with a focus on health and safety (H&S) compliance.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Tool Hire H&S procedures and ensure maintenance and equipment certification meet regulatory standards.
  • Support sales growth initiatives by identifying and communicating local market issues.
  • Administrative responsibilities –
    • Process sales orders promptly.
    • Keep maintenance records updated for hired products.
    • Handle cash payments in line with company policies.
  • Conduct daily and weekly vehicle checks.
  • Assist the supervisor in managing stock levels, including verifying incoming deliveries against tickets and participating in stock takes.

Critical Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Full, clean driving licence – Must hold a class 2/Category C license, plus valid CPC card and Digi Tachograph card.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Health & Safety legislation.
  • Relevant industry and product knowledge in Tool Hire/plant hire.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic attitude; commitment to great customer experience.
  • Strong people skills to build and maintain successful professional relationships.
  • Organisational aptitude for stock management and workflow efficiency.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for servicing and repair.

Desirable

  • GCSE equivalents in Maths & English.
  • Experience in sales or customer-focused roles.
  • IT literacy and familiarity with administrative systems.
  • (Not required) Additional HGV driving experience – Open to newly qualified drivers.
  • Prior Tool Hire or plant machinery industry experience.
