Tool Room Operator
Temporary
Tool Room Operator Long-Term Temp to Perm Based in Wallsend 2 shift 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm Hourly Rate £14.97
Our client is a well-established manufacturer within Wallsend. Driven by continuous improvement and technical excellence, they are currently seeking an organised, detail-oriented Tool Room Operator to join their team. This role is initially offered on a long-term temporary basis, with a distinct view to transition into a permanent contract for the right candidate.
The Role:
To manage and control all tooling required for production, ensuring correct storage, traceability, and availability. This role sits under the Technical department and supports process improvement by providing accurate tooling data, reducing delays, and extending tool life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory & Asset Management: Receive, log, and issue all new and existing tooling. Maintain an accurate digital and physical inventory system, ensuring everything is stored securely in a labelled, controlled environment.
- Digital Transformation: Help implement and champion a new digital tooling control system (utilising barcoding, databases, or tracking software).
- Quality & Inspection: Clean, inspect, and verify roller units, preform heads, and postformers prior to production use to guarantee they meet strict specifications.
- Data & Continuous Improvement: Track tool usage and wear (hours run, meters produced). Provide Technical Engineers with analytical data on tool failures, suggest 5S storage layout improvements, and assist with tooling trials.
- Production Support & Procurement: Minimise production delays by ensuring the correct tools are fully prepared ahead of changeovers. Coordinate with the procurement team for repairs, deliveries, and consumables stock.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
