Tooling and Manufacturing Engineer

Tooling & Manufacturing Engineer – Junior to Mid

Location: Broughton (onsite) Clearance Requirement: SC clearable Employment Type: Full time


About the Role

As a Tooling & Manufacturing Engineer, you will join ALTEN’s Broughton team to support aerospace manufacturing projects. This role involves designing, reviewing, and executing tooling solutions for aircraft component programmes, with a focus on design reviews, manufacturability, and supplier engagement. You will lead tooling concepts from design through to trial phases, ensuring compliance with standards, operational efficiency, and safety.


Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively contribute to design & tooling reviews, assessing manufacturability, usability, and practicality
  • Evaluate tooling requirements (e.g., storage constraints, lifting needs such as crane specifications)
  • Engage with suppliers to understand capabilities, constraints, and tooling demands
  • Ensure all tooling solutions comply with industry standards and safety regulations
  • Design and oversee manufacture of tooling solutions (e.g., trolleys, handling equipment)
  • Manage trial phases, validating solutions and ensuring seamless implementation

Requirements

Skills & Experience (Required)
  • Experience in:
    • Tooling design
    • Manufacturing engineering or production support
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Aerospace manufacturing processes & constraints
    • Practical concerns (handling, storage, safety for large components)
  • Ability to:
    • Manage supplier discussions
    • Solve technical challenges
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders
Qualifications (Required)
  • Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering, or equivalent military experience
  • Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing/tooling-focused engineering environment
  • Familiarity with:
    • Engineering drawings
    • Industry standards & compliance processes
Skills & Experience (Desirable)
  • Experience with Airbus programmes or standards
  • Knowledge of lifting equipment regulations & handling solutions
  • Experience in tooling trials, validation, industrialisation phases
