Tooling and Manufacturing Engineer
Tooling & Manufacturing Engineer – Junior to Mid
Location: Broughton (onsite) Clearance Requirement: SC clearable Employment Type: Full time
About the Role
As a Tooling & Manufacturing Engineer, you will join ALTEN’s Broughton team to support aerospace manufacturing projects. This role involves designing, reviewing, and executing tooling solutions for aircraft component programmes, with a focus on design reviews, manufacturability, and supplier engagement. You will lead tooling concepts from design through to trial phases, ensuring compliance with standards, operational efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and actively contribute to design & tooling reviews, assessing manufacturability, usability, and practicality
- Evaluate tooling requirements (e.g., storage constraints, lifting needs such as crane specifications)
- Engage with suppliers to understand capabilities, constraints, and tooling demands
- Ensure all tooling solutions comply with industry standards and safety regulations
- Design and oversee manufacture of tooling solutions (e.g., trolleys, handling equipment)
- Manage trial phases, validating solutions and ensuring seamless implementation

Requirements
Skills & Experience (Required)
- Experience in:
- Tooling design
- Manufacturing engineering or production support
- Strong knowledge of:
- Aerospace manufacturing processes & constraints
- Practical concerns (handling, storage, safety for large components)
- Ability to:
- Manage supplier discussions
- Solve technical challenges
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders
Qualifications (Required)
- Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering, or equivalent military experience
- Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing/tooling-focused engineering environment
- Familiarity with:
- Engineering drawings
- Industry standards & compliance processes
Skills & Experience (Desirable)
- Experience with Airbus programmes or standards
- Knowledge of lifting equipment regulations & handling solutions
- Experience in tooling trials, validation, industrialisation phases
