Role Overview:

The primary goals of the trade compliance department are twofold: to safeguard the company and its staff by ensuring full compliance with international trade laws; and to support the company's strategic efforts by streamlining cross-border operations, broadening market opportunities, and facilitating global growth initiatives. This position will play a vital role in these objectives, applying your expertise in international trade to establish robust compliance procedures, advise the business, and leverage trade compliance as a strategic asset to drive success.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform accurate, robust export classification (military, and dual use) of goods, software, and technology at component, system, and platform levels – and manage the classification entries of all items within the company’s ERP system
  • Identify the need for export licensing and apply/obtain as necessary to enable business transactions and overseas activities, including the utilisation of licence exceptions and exemptions as an advantage.
  • Provide direct support to the company Logistics function for all national and international shipping operations, ensuring all export licensing, customs, and destination-country entry requirements are met.
  • Manage all trade compliance recordkeeping to meet regulatory obligations and maintain a high level of audit readiness
  • Champion the company's compliance mission by promoting awareness and driving a culture of ethical behaviour across the business.
  • Collaborate closely with other teams such as Supply Chain, Security, and Engineering, to ensure compliance requirements are embedded across company operations and processes.
  • Act as a trusted and reliable contact point across the business for all compliance related queries to support business operations.
  • Proactively engage with departments such as Business Development, Engineering, and Trials, to identify business activities requiring Trade Compliance support and remedy as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience:

  • 2-5 years’ experience in a trade compliance, export controls, customs/logistics, or similar role
  • (Defence/maritime-specific experience an advantage)
  • Strong understanding and experience complying with UK export controls including classification and licensing
  • Experience in US export controls (ITAR/EAR) preferred but not mandatory.
  • International shipping/logistics/customs experience an advantage.

Skills:

  • Excellent stakeholder management: ability to gain buy-in from departments, articulate compliance requirements coherently, and build strong levels of trust
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to pass information clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to take complex regulatory information and present it in an accessible and relevant manner for internal departments.
  • Strong ethical attitude, comfortable setting boundaries and the confidence to challenge or stop non-compliant activities
  • Proactive ability to take initiative - gathering information, finding solutions, without guidance and instruction

Note: Due to the nature of work undertaken at SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of the position, which would include as a minimum Existing right to live and work in the UK, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.*
