Civil Crafts/Tradesperson – Oxford, Cirencester, Swindon
Overview
Location: Oxford, Cirencester, Swindon Salary: £36,139 – £43,188 + benefits (including family, financial, and wellbeing support) Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Onsite
We are seeking an experienced Civil Crafts/Tradesperson to join our team and undertake essential running repairs to electrical substation buildings and enclosures.
About the Role
As part of our civil trades team, you will be responsible for maintaining and upgrading substations, encompassing activities such as:
- Painting, fencing, carpentry, brick laying
- Small roofing and wiring works
- Window replacements and glazing
- Ad-hoc repairs and upkeep of operational buildings
Your role requires a high level of practical expertise, attention to safety, and a commitment to delivering excellent service.
What You Will Do
Core Responsibilities
- Plan and execute tasks including painting, fencing, carpentry, bricklaying, small roofing/wiring, glazing, and other civil upkeep activities in accordance with ESQCR regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and adhere to lone working procedures, immediately stopping work if health and safety protocols are breached and escalating risks rapidly.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and mitigate hazards effectively through thorough risk assessments.
- Monitor compliance with CDM regulations when working with external contractors and escalate issues to the civils compliance coordinator or team manager.
- Represent SSE professionally, responding to enquiries, and monitoring customer satisfaction to maintain high service standards.

What You Have
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a related construction trade.
- Ability to work independently in varying conditions.
- Strong awareness of health and safety protocols.
- Exceptional communication skills to interact with colleagues, contractors, and customers on all levels.
- Basic IT proficiency for data recording and updates.
Mandatory Conditions:
- A full UK driving licence (for on-site travel and deliveries).
- Flexibility with working hours and potential relocation for deployment on specific projects.
- A commitment to adhering to SSE’s operational and safety standards.
