London Head of Engineering – Pre-Trade Technology Team
What is the opportunity?
The role is within the Central Funding Group Technology team, to lead the pre-trade technology team in building an in-house cross-asset trading and execution platform.
This is a real-time application providing key functionality such as:
- Analytics capabilities
- Order management dashboards
- Execution through electronic market connectivity
Key traded products: Repo, Securities Lending
Platform also covers:
- Futures
- Swaps
- FX
- Cash trades
The role demands excellence in full-stack technical skills to:
- Direct other team members in delivering high-quality code
- Establish best practices
- Provide architecture guidance and innovation
Additionally, this position requires:
- Acting as London Head of Engineering for the Funding, Treasury and Liquidity (FTL) organization
- Overseeing multiple initiatives, including Repo and Securities Lending business
- Providing technical direction and standards
- Engaging in prototyping and actual code delivery
Key details of the role:
- Location: London (primary)
- Team: Currently based across London, Toronto, and Buenos Aires (further growth planned in other locations)
- Work arrangement: Expected to work in the office, with flexibility for up to 1 day per week remotely, depending on arrangements.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Work closely with trading and technology stakeholders to develop scalable and efficient technology solutions
- Balance technical hands-on involvement with high-level architectural and team leadership
- Lead the design and development of the ATOM application, supporting:
- Pre-trade analytics
- Pricing
- Live risk
- Order execution (for repos and securities lending)
- Drive risk-managed, maintainable, and budget-conscious solutions
- Advocate adoption of modern technologies and methodologies, including:
- Latest AI tools and emerging technologies
- Agile practices
- Champion a culture of delegation, empowerment, and engineering innovation
- Encourage calculated risk-taking within technical boundary conditions
- Foster engineering growth through challenging work and informal mentorship opportunities

Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and coordinate globally distributed teams across multiple regions
- Collaborate with infrastructure and platform teams to:
- Establish efficient CI/CD pipelines
- Maintain stable production and disaster recovery (DR) environments
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to team members
- Maintain strong relationships with both developers and stakeholders
- Uphold high standards in software quality, performance, and reliability
Requirements
Technical & Professional Experience
- Extensive full-stack engineering experience, including:
- Senior leadership or managerial roles in technology teams (preferably managing 15+ engineers)
- Strong background in:
- System design
- Architectural leadership
- Scalable platform development
- Direct experience with:
- Building distributed systems using streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Ignite)
- Focus on high-performance and -scalability needs
- Advanced experience with:
- Containerisation and orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes)
- Proven expertise in capital markets technology, especially:
- Trading system development (pricing, risk, and order management)
- Demonstrated ability to balance codership with leadership responsibility
Soft Skills & Stakeholder Management
- Strong stakeholder communication and leadership skills
- Ability to arouse engagement from senior audiences
- Experience in leading engineering teams globally, who work across multiple regions
- Exceptional risk assessment and mitigation skills
Technological Aptitudes
- Passionate and hands-on with adopting AI, innovative methodologies, and emerging tech
- Willingness to drive technological change within aligned financial constraints
