Accounting Support Specialist – Private Equity & Taxation (Generative Intelligence II)

About the Role

In this dynamic and fulfilling position, you will serve as a crucial link between our Centre of Excellence team and the Gen II offices, providing comprehensive taxation, bookkeeping, and accounting support to clients within the Private Equity sector. Your work will align with our defined business activities while ensuring meticulous adherence to Gen II’s internal procedures. Your role demands a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and compliance—playing a pivotal part in maintaining financial integrity across our portfolio.


Key Responsibilities

Your remit is broad yet focused on core operational activities that advance our clients’ financial health. While not limited to the following, you will typically be accountable for:

  • Client Portfolio Management

    • Hold direct responsibility for a portfolio of clients, ensuring their operational and financial needs are met with precision.
  • Financial Reconciliation & Compliance

    • Conduct regular banking platform reconciliations and escalate any anomalies to the relevant stakeholders.
    • Adhere strictly to regulatory reporting requirements and prepare necessary filings to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Planning & Analysis

    • Close monthly and quarterly management accounts and maintain comprehensive bookkeeping records.
    • Calculate Net Asset Value (NAV) for private equity funds, performing regular valuations of investments and recording income and expenses accordingly.
    • Prepare annual accounts, adhering to IFRS or other applicable standards.
  • Tax & VAT Support

    • Develop tax computations for clients, ensuring tax obligations are met on time and accurately.
    • Compile VAT returns and handle VAT reverse-charge calculations when applicable.

  • Customer & Collaborative Interactions

    • Liaise with clients and wider operations teams during high-volume periods, delivering expertise where needed.
    • Communicate financial insights, resolve inquiries, and assist in coordinating meetings or document preparation.
  • Performance & Profitability Monitoring

    • Hold direct responsibility for monitoring the efficient delivery of accounting services to each client, ensuring timely and high-quality completion.
    • Support indirect profitability maximisation by optimising own processes and detecting potential cost savings or inefficiencies.

Experience & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Currently studying toward an accounting qualification (desired—e.g., ACCA or ACA at professional level, where applicable).
  • No formal exam completion required, but demonstrated learning or progress in a recognised programme is a plus.

Experience

  • Direct experience in producing management accounts and financial statements within private equity or real estate funds (preferred—desirable).
  • Familiarity with specialised financial software, including:
    • Caseware
    • Investran
    • BOB 50
    • Yardi (or similar industry tools).
  • Comprehensive background in maintaining accounting transaction accuracy and issuing financially compliant statements for diverse entities.
  • Prior exposure to Private Equity or Real Estate fund operations (highly sought-after).

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel (advanced/analytical use preferred), and Outlook.
  • Profound understanding of IFRS or other international accounting standards (essential).
  • Relevant awareness of local finance legislation and regulatory frameworks.

Core Knowledge Requirements:

  • Exceptional attention to detail, allowing you to navigate complex financial records with care.
  • Robust analytical problem-solving skills to trouble-shoot anomalies dynamically.
  • Confidentiality and data handling best practices to protect sensitive financial information.
  • Familiarity with state-of-the art accounting tools mentioned earlier.

Soft Skills & Communication:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English, excelling at:
    • Complesions concise emails for stakeholders.
    • Taking germane meeting notes.
    • Assisting in document preparation (e.g., proposals, financial disclosures, internal reports).
  • Demonstrated proactive initiative and adaptability in high-pressure scenarios.

Role Location & Expectations

Work Venue: Primarily based in our Southampton office.

While full remote working is typically restricted at Gen II, this role will operate under an office-based model in alignment with our commitment to hands-on Agile Working principles, including:

  • Structured in-office access with collaboration opportunities prioritised over fully remote arrangements.
  • A structured approach to hybrid transitions, based on office capacity, team requirements, and individual needs (e.g., training needs, workload accommodation).
  • Training schedules are consists of hands-on sessions, requiring consistent presence.
