Trainee Biomedical Scientist

Exciting Opportunity in the Biochemistry Department at Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services

This is an excellent role to join the Biochemistry Department Network of Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services, based at University Hospital Coventry (UHCW) – a UKAS ISO15189:2022 accredited department with IBMS training status.

UHCW is a major trauma centre, offering a supportive and dynamic environment for professionals seeking to thrive in diagnostic pathology.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties (Under Supervision)

  • Perform routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material using manual and automated techniques, adhering to SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Interpret diagnostic investigations, handling technical/analytical issues and escalating concerns to senior staff as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely data entry on laboratory computer systems and automated analysers.
  • Generate and authorise electronic/verbal laboratory reports for approved recipients.
  • Engage in internal quality checks, quality assurance schemes, and significant audits under senior guidance.
  • Contribute to laboratory performance targets directed by management.

Requirements

  • IBMS-accredited degree in Biomedical Science
  • Proven experience working in a UK diagnostic laboratory
  • Highly motivated, hardworking, and capable of managing a busy workload
  • Strong ability to operate as a forward-thinking team player

Salary & Career Progression

  • 75% of top Band 5 pay scale (£28,347 p.a.)
  • Opportunities to progress to substantive Band 5 upon completion of the registration portfolio

Additional Considerations

  • Immunisation/Vaccination Report required from:
    • Your current UK Occupational Health provider, or
    • Your UK GP
