Who We Are

Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic steel production and engineering company. A global leader in the designing, manufacturing and delivering of world-class steel forgings and castings.

It is a great time to join Forgemasters, as the business goes through an ongoing period of growth and modernisation after being acquired by the UK Ministry of Defence In 2021. The acquisition has secured our role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK defence programmes. As part of this programme of work our plant and equipment will be modernised over the next 10 years, creating new opportunities for the business and our colleagues.

Based at our 64 acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield, we are looking for a Heat Treatment Operative. This role will involve operating heat treatment equipment to produce hardened steel rolls.

Role Responsibilities

Sheffield Forgemasters are seeking to recruit an applicant to be trained as a burner in the foundry frontend. The trainee will report directly to the Foundry Shift Manager and will clean/burn all scrap off of castings including feeder heads, padding and runner systems. The trainee will clean castings using a pecker and prepare for burning. To burn scrap off of castings using oxy-propane, burning gun and oxy lance will need to be used. Lancing ladles to open when casting.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
