The Careers Service is looking to grow the team.
We deliver careers education, advice, and guidance to students across their entire journey, working closely with employers, academic colleagues, and student services to empower students to define and achieve their own aspirations.
We are excited to offer an opportunity for someone passionate about building a career in careers and employability to join us as a Trainee Careers Adviser. This role is designed for candidates who do not yet hold a formal careers qualification but possess the values, skills, and commitment needed to develop into an outstanding careers professional.
About The Role
As a Trainee Careers Adviser, you’ll work directly with students, delivering careers and employability guidance through a range of methods, including:

From your first day, you’ll be an active contributor, participating in:
- Projects
- Group and large-group delivery sessions
- Offering tailored support to help students make informed decisions about their future, considering their individual backgrounds and goals.
During this role, you will receive structured training and development, including:
- A PG Cert in Career Development with the University of Warwick
- A Higher Apprenticeship in Career Development
Additionally, you’ll benefit from:
- Mentoring and guidance from an experienced team of professionally qualified Careers Consultants
About You
There’s no substitute for direct experience in transforming lives through careers guidance, though we particularly welcome applicants from roles such as:
- HR, learning and development, or people-focused roles
- Teaching, training, or education
- Recruitment, employer engagement, or resourcing
- Student support, wellbeing, widening participation, or pastoral care
- Employability, outreach, mentoring, or advice-giving roles
Above all, what we’re looking for is your ability to bring:
- Empathy
- A deep understanding of the diversity faced by students and the barriers they may encounter
- Confidence working with groups
- Genuine interest in fostering careers and employability, with a passion for Higher Education

Recruitment Timelines

- Start in post no later than 6th July 2026 (if shortlisted)
