Finlay Jude Associates are recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering business in the Whitworth area. Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and hard-working Trainee Engineering Stores Assistant to assist the Stores Engineer in all aspects of operating the engineering stores in the factory.
This will initially be a temporary position with a view to becoming permanent, following a successful probation period.
Package and benefits in the role of Trainee Engineering Stores Assistant:
- Salary £14 per hour (with potential to rise depending on progress)
- 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday (7.30am – 4pm Monday – Thursday and 7am – 12pm on Friday)
- Onsite parking – you must have a full UK Driving licence
- Career progression and development opportunities – this will be a 2-year training program
- Forklift truck licence training
Trainee Engineering Stores Assistant Role And Duties
- Assist the Stores engineer in all aspects of operating the engineering stores in the factory.
- Operate the company database and control stock in the business.
- Computer literate, able to operate general Microsoft products.
- Ensure all stock is marked up and stored in line with company procedures.
- Carry out regular stock checks and updates.
- Inspect all incoming deliveries and goods.
- Generate goods inward documentation.
- Pack and arrange transport for outgoing goods/spare parts.
- Arrange couriers and associated documentation.
- Assist with the control and issue of daily consumables.
- Collate project specific kits from BOM’S.
- Manage maintenance logs for commercial vehicles and arrange maintenance as required.
- Assist with the control and issue of PPE.
- Fully operate the engineering stores – during holiday cover periods.
- Offloading and racking of materials.
- Carry out various deliveries and collections using the company vehicles.
- Qualify for a Forklift Truck licence after the 6 months’ probation period.
- Qualify in first aid after the 6 months’ probation period.
- Open and lock the site as and when required.
- Maintain clean, tidy and safe working areas.

Required skills and experience for the Trainee Engineering Stores Assistant role:
- Full UK driving licence.
- Enthusiastic and hard-working.
- Physically capable of carrying out manual tasks including bending, lifting and manual labour.
- Strong communication skills.
- Good knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
