Trainee Environmental Technician (Chemist)

Environmental Field Technician (Regional / Field-Based)

Location: Regional / Field-Based (Reporting to regional depot) Salary: £26,088


About the Role

As the crucial "boots on the ground" and public face of our business, we deliver cross-functional services across water utilities, construction, and environmental compliance. This unique field-based role combines environmental chemistry with hands-on outdoor operations, perfect for those who want to leave the lab behind.

You’ll work flexibly and autonomously across Water, Construction and Compliance, ensuring data integrity while enjoying:

Key Responsibilities

Waste Sampling & Compliance

  • Test industrial and domestic waste streams at treatment works, conducting rapid on-site chemical analysis before accepting deliveries.
  • Perform the official receipt of tankered trade and domestic waste, ensuring compliance with lab standards.

Environmental Monitoring

  • Conduct routine environmental sampling and monitoring across site types, adhering to QA protocols and client contracts.
  • Carry out operational checks, calibrations and preventative maintenance on environmental control systems.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Capture and manage high-precision data, reporting findings to Data Analysts with zero gaps.
  • Liaise with external laboratories and couriers to guarantee sample integrity during transport.

Safety & Training

  • Maintain absolute safety standards, using the "Stay Safe" remote working application and reporting near misses immediately.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new employees for a smooth transition into fieldwork.

Who You Are

Essential Requirements

  • A passionate love for working outdoors in all weathers – no static lab work here!
  • A reliable, self-sufficient worker who can plan their own hours, adapt to schedules, and solve problems independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with clients, waste hauliers, and internal teams.
  • A full UK driving licence (non-negotiable).
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns (7am–7pm), occasional weekends, and night commitments if project demands.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • BSc in Environmental Science, Environmental Chemistry, or a related science discipline (preferred but not always mandatory).
  • Foundational knowledge of the water/waste industry or prior experience in environmental field monitoring (training provided for all roles).
