Trainee Field Technician

The Trainee Field Technician Role

You’ll join the Field Services Team as a Water Quality Flushing Technician, gaining hands-on experience with clean water networks. Based primarily in the Wessex Water region—covering Taunton and Yeovil—you’ll work alongside the Wessex Water team to carry out programmes that mitigate discolouration issues and enhance network performance. During drought periods, support may extend to broader water network activities.

Main Duties

  • Deliver planned mains flushing with the Wessex Water team
  • Systematically flush clean water mains according to schedule
  • Adhere to the highest standards for water hygiene and health & safety protocols
  • Operate valves and hydrants while practising calm network principles
  • Monitor turbidity, chlorine levels, flow rates and volumes
  • Implement and apply pollution prevention measures throughout operations

Requirements

  • Organised, accurate, and customer-focused in approach
  • Reliable, hardworking, and punctual with strong attendance
  • Desirable: Knowledge of clean water networks
  • Strong digital skills, especially proficiency with Excel
  • A complementary team player with exceptional communication and knowledge-sharing mindset
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Capable of working outdoors under all weather conditions, including night shifts
  • Full driving licence required
