Trainee Gas Engineer – Poole | Salisbury | Bournemouth | Weymouth | New Milton
Salary: £28.2k per annum (increase to £31.3k upon successful completion of probationary period). After qualification, earning potential increases with additional standby and overtime options.

About the Role
Are you ready to start an exciting career journey keeping people safe and warm? We’re looking for Trainee Gas Engineers—and we’re not interested in your CV. Instead, we want to uncover your values, skills, and potential to grow with us.
Looking to embark on a career as a Trainee Gas Engineer in the energy sector? We’ll provide all the training, equipment, and support you need. No prior experience required. Just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers to repair, replace, and install new gas mains and services that keep millions connected across the UK.
Responsibilities
You’ll help deliver our mission to keep people safe and warm by:
- Supporting engineers on-site, learning daily through hands-on work during gas service and mains repair activities
- Excavating, digging in public and private areas, and installing/repairing gas pipes in outdoor environments as part of a team
- Maintaining 24/7 availability for essential work—standby and overtime opportunities may apply for irregular hours
- Ensuring SGN vans and tools are properly maintained before and after each job for safe, efficient operations

Will be clean shaven and pass a face fit test to use tight-fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus (This is mandatory for personal protection when working with harmful substances.)

Valid full UK driving licence must be held for operational tasks.

- Due to fast response times, this role requires an address within commutable distance of our priority locations.
