Our organisation has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Trainee Generalist Adviser. This role offers:

About the Role
As a Trainee Generalist Adviser, you will assist people in accessing important support within these challenging times. Upon successful training, you will be qualified to handle a wide variety of enquiries both telephonically and face-to-face.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing free, confidential, and impartial advice on welfare benefits, debt, employment, housing, and other key support services
- Conducting evidence-based assessments to explore clients’ needs
- Identifying possible solutions and signposting or referring individuals to relevant services or support agencies
- Working collaboratively with clients to maintain and enhance independence
- Practicing acceptable standards of advocacy and basic legal procedures within Citizens Advice guidelines
- Committing to lifelong learning by maintaining current knowledge of developing legislation, benefit entitlements, and related services
- Supporting citizens in problem-solving scenarios using practical and emotionally sensitive approaches
- Adhering to citizens’ rights and intelligent and unbiased advice provisions
- Ensuring high-quality data and referral system standard compliance

Travel requirements: Due to the scope of your support, you will need to travel to multiple sites within the North East Derbyshire and Bolsover districts.
Hours: 37 hours per week (standard working hours) Working location: Based from our Clay Cross office, with options for hybrid working (subject to approval post-training)
Training and Support
Candidates will be provided with:
- A thorough induction and training programme to develop core skills in generalist advice provision, legislation updates, and confidentiality procedures
- Continued mentorship and on-the-job training throughout the fixed-term period
Requirements
To apply for this role, you should have:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong foreкibly guiding and analytical abilities
- Willingness to research legislation/entitlements and apply findings to real-world advice scenarios
- Passion for improving social fairness and supporting disadvantaged individuals
- Ability to work sensitively with diverse groups, ensuring everyone receives impartial and nondiscriminatory guidance
- No prior experience is required for the trainee position, but experienced advisers are also encouraged to apply for new opportunities

Preferred/experience-based qualities:
- Communication with people having special needs
- Prior experience within citizens' advice, benefits analysis, or similar public-facing support roles

Specifics
- Salary: £25,877.80 p.a., rising to £29,531 after progression
- Contract Type: Fixed-term until 30 September 2027 (extension subject to funding availability)
- Start Date: Available immediately if available
- Clearing an appropriate level of DBS (Decremental and Barring Service): Basic DBS check required
