About the Role
Howdens is seeking a technically minded individual to join our Solid Surface Installations team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong trade background (e.g., skilled fitter) or a recent graduate with a relevant technical subject such as engineering, construction, product design, or architecture, looking to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical, hands-on environment.
With full training and upskilling provided, this position offers a clear career progression into a specialist surveying role. Suitable for those who take pride in precision, enjoy working with customers on-site, and are eager to build a long-term career with a forward-thinking, respected business.
Reports to: Solid Surface Installation Manager
Key Responsibilities
This customer-facing, field-based role involves visiting customer sites to capture precise measurements for the manufacture of bespoke solid surface worktops. The opportunity allows for specialist technical career growth, blending either trade experience or technical education in a real-world setting.
With structured training and ongoing support, you’ll develop the skills, confidence, and technical expertise required to deliver an "excellence first" service.
- Produce accurate digital template plans, adhering to agreed drawing standards.
- Visit customer sites to deliver a professional, high-quality customer experience.
- Record and submit measurements/orders accurately via our CRM system.
- Assess site conditions to ensure safe, smooth installation.
- Collaborate with template, technical, and installation teams.
- Maintain high safety, quality, and attention-to-detail standards.
- Support continuous improvement in safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

Requirements
Ideal Candidate Profile
Knowledge & Experience

Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience with solid surface products, fitting, or installation.
- Relevant technical qualification/degree (e.g., in engineering, construction, architecture, product design).
- Understanding of measuring, precision, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
- Awareness of technical drawings and CAD systems (previously operated laser templating tools).

Training will be provided in all areas, including laser templating proficiency.

Essential:
- Strong interest in technical precision with excellent attention to detail.
- Confidence in professional site-based customer interactions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organise, prioritise, and manage time efficiently.
- Experience with IT systems, particularly Microsoft Office.
