Trainee Leakage Technician
Spot the leaks that matter — and help keep the network flowing
Purpose and Scope of the Role
Tetra Tech is seeking Acoustic Logging Technicians to support the United Utilities contract in Merseyside. You will survey the water network, locate fittings, capture noise data using electronic leak detection equipment and support accurate leakage identification. Working outdoors across varied sites, you will contribute to projects that help reduce water loss, protect communities and support regulatory performance. Full training is provided.
Your Impact in This Position
In the short term, you will build practical field skills, strengthen your technical confidence and play a key role in day-to-day survey delivery. Over time, you can develop deeper expertise in leakage detection, inspection and operational support. Longer term, this role offers clear development within a major environmental consultancy and exposure to significant water industry work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
