Trainee Lifeguard

Location Leys, Ferry, Barton and Hinksey Leisure Centres

Working Hours Full-time and part-time hours available to cover a mixture of early and late shifts including weekends.

Salary £14.06 per hour + excellent benefits

Trainee Lifeguard Role

They are now looking for Trainee Lifeguards to join their team and help create a positive difference every day.

Required Commitment

  • Full attendance is mandatory for the Lifeguard Course held at Leys Leisure Centre from Monday 3 August to Friday 7 August (9 am – 6 pm).

What You Will Do

You will be an important part of the operations at Leisure Centres, ensuring pool safety while guests enjoy their visit.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing excellent customer service to all ages and backgrounds.
  • Supervising pool activities and maintaining high safety standards.
  • Keeping pool areas clean and properly managing pool equipment.
  • Responding to emergencies—saving lives when necessary.

As a lifeguard, you'll need:

  • Safety consciousness and vigilance under pressure.
  • No prior lifeguard experience required—just a strong desire to join the role and meet the minimum swim test criteria.

Swim Test Requirements (Minimum)

To qualify for the course, you must be able to complete the following:

  • Jump/dive into deep water.
  • Swim 50 metres in under 60 seconds (2 pool lengths).
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water (8 pool lengths).
  • Tread water for 30 seconds.
  • Surface dive to the pool floor (ideally no deeper than 2.0m).
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps (if pool design permits).
