Barrie Knitwear is offering several exciting opportunities to join our Training Academy at our Hawick headquarters as a Trainee Linker. Whether you're leaving school, looking for a career change, or simply enjoy working with your hands, no previous experience is required, we'll provide all the training and support you need to succeed.

This is your chance to learn highly skilled techniques that have been passed down through generations while helping create luxury cashmere garments for some of the world's most prestigious fashion houses.

Who is Barrie Knitwear?

We are a fashion manufacturer that is renowned worldwide for our outstanding ability to combine exceptional technical skills and traditional expertise to create complex couture cashmere garments. We supply to some of the biggest luxury fashion houses in the world. This is an exciting time for us as we continue to expand and transform. The market and landscape are fast-moving and growing which is creating new opportunities.

No Experience? No Problem.

Although any relevant experience is valuable to us we believe attitude is more important than experience. Our dedicated in-house Training Academy has been designed to develop the next generation of skilled Linkers. You'll receive structured training, ongoing coaching and mentoring from experienced colleagues who are passionate about passing on their knowledge and preserving these valuable skills.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Trainee Linker, you'll learn one of the most specialised and valued skills within luxury knitwear manufacturing. Linking is a precision craft that involves joining individual knitted garment panels together using specialist linking machines. Every stitch must be carefully aligned to create seamless, luxury-quality garments that meet the exacting standards of some of the world's most prestigious fashion houses.

As your training progresses, you'll learn how to:

  • Join knitted garment panels accurately using specialist linking machinery.
  • Produce luxury cashmere garments to precise quality specifications.
  • Read and follow technical specifications, garment patterns and instructions.
  • Inspect your own work to ensure garments meet the highest quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve minor issues during the linking process.
  • Handle luxury garments with care throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure customer deadlines are hit.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
  • Continuously develop your technical skills through structured training.

Who We're Looking For?

We're looking for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to learn, take pride in their work and are committed to developing specialist skills. You'll be someone who has:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Patience and the ability to concentrate on precision work
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Pride in producing high-quality workmanship
  • A strong work ethic and a reliable approach
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to work independently when required
  • Interest or experience in textiles or luxury manufacturing (desirable not essential)
  • A desire to build a long-term career with Barrie Knitwear

Successful applicants will be invited to visit our factory for a practical trial to assess your potential and a face to face interview. During the session you'll have the opportunity to:
