Overview
The Trainee Management Accountant supports the Finance function in delivering accurate financial information, maintaining controls, and assisting with the preparation of management accounts. This entry-level role provides exposure to key areas of hotel finance, including:
- reconciliations
- reporting
- cost analysis
- operational support
Working closely with the Senior Management Accountant and operational teams, the trainee will develop technical skills and commercial understanding while contributing to reliable financial processes across the hotel or cluster. This position is designed to support progression towards a fully qualified Management Accountant role.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts for assigned hotel(s).
- Prepare basic variance analysis and commentary under supervision.
- Maintain daily banking reconciliations, revenue postings, and system checks (e.g., PMS, POS, payroll).
- Support the month-end close process, including journals for accruals, prepayments, and cost allocations.
- Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts.
- Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
- Support invoice processing, purchase orders, and expense claims reviews.
- Assist with reviewing payroll costs, F&B margins, and departmental KPIs.
- Work closely with operational managers to improve cost controls and financial awareness.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and information.
- Contribute to finance system improvements, reporting enhancements, and process automation tasks.

Skills and Qualifications
Preferred:
- Actively studying or intending to pursue ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification.
- Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with hotel systems (PMS, POS, accounting software) is advantageous.
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
Essential:
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take ownership of tasks.
- Highly organised, proactive, and reliable in meeting deadlines.
- Previous experience in hospitality or finance is beneficial but not required.
Working Conditions
- Based at Montcalm Collection Head Office, London (pelling-office environment).
- Full-time position with flexibility required during month-end, audits, and budgeting periods.
- Regular travel between hotels and head office as needed.
Eligibility
- Candidates must be authorised to live and work in the UK.
- Currently, visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
