Trainee MCD Site Technician
Trainee Level Ground Investigation Site Testing Technician – Permanent
MCD Ground Solutions is an industry-leading support services company, providing the construction sector with a range of site investigation services. We specialise in drilling, in-situ testing, technical labour, sampling, monitoring, and surveying throughout the UK.
We are currently looking for a competent, hard-working trainee level ground investigation site testing technician to join our permanent MCD team!
About the Role
We welcome individuals who are eager to learn, capable of operating high-spec in-situ testing and geotechnical drilling equipment, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, expanding industry. You’ll join our small but friendly team of enthusiastic technicians.

Key Responsibilities (Daily Duties)
Our site technicians work across various outdoor environments—future developments, active construction sites, and infrastructure projects (highways, MOD bases). They operate under guidance from a senior technician while progressing through a defined training plan.

Core Duties Include:
- Ground investigations, such as:
- Serving as second man on a window sampling drilling rig
- Conducting hand-dug excavations
- Inspecting foundation/utility inspection pits
- Breaking out & reinstating ground
- Clearing vegetation
- General site duties and maintenance
Progress opportunities include advancing to lead driller (window sampling) or on-site testing, such as Plate Load Testing.
Requirements & Skills
This is an entry-level role with free training—no prior experience needed.
We are seeking individuals with: ✔ Strong communication skills (written & verbal) ✔ Familiarity with touchscreen tablets ✔ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an outdoor environment ✔ A positive attitude to health & safety ✔ Reliability, punctuality, enthusiasm, and self-motivation
Essential Criteria
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Full UK driving licence (travel across the UK may be required)
Desirable (but not mandatory)
- CSCS card
