A fantastic opportunity for a trainee midwife sonographer has arisen to work in our busy Obstetric Ultrasound Department / Fetal Medicine Unit at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
We are an enthusiastic and challenge driven team keen to develop our midwife/obstetric sonography service generating approx 11,000 scans per year with a team of 4 sonographers. Raigmore Hospital provides midwifery, obstetric and neonatal care to pregnant women and their families living in the Scottish Highlands. It covers a wide rural area of 12500 square miles and has approx 1600 births a year. In the Obstetric Ultrasound Department we have a range of high spec ultrasound equipment in the form of - 6 Voluson E10 machines
You will be a qualified midwife with a degree level qualification or equivalent with extensive post-registration experience, at least 3 years, preferably in antenatal care. You must have a real desire to train in the area of obstetric ultrasound and demonstrate commitment to the work involved. A mandatory practical aptitude test will be expected prior to agreement of successful application.
You will be expected to undertake a Post Graduate Certificate in Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound attending theory lectures in Glasgow. Practical training will be undertaken in our Obstetric Ultrasound Department under supervision of our Fetal Medicine Consultant and Midwife/Obstetric sonographers.

During training you will be paid under Annex 21 arrangements;
- up to one year (365 days) prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate
- more than one (366 days+) but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate
- more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate
- more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
Once you have successfully completed your training you will move on to the Band 7 salary scale.
