Trainee Purchase Ledger Assistant

Are you organised, accurate and keen to start or develop a career in finance? We have an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Purchase Ledger Assistant to join our Finance team on a permanent, full-time basis at our Hillier Support Centre in Ampfield.

Hillier is a long-established, family-owned business with more than 155 years of horticultural expertise and a proud reputation for quality, innovation and exceptional customer experience. As our estate of garden centres continues to grow, our Finance team plays an important role in supporting accurate, efficient and well-managed financial administration across the business.

Working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break, and with a salary of up to £25,000 per annum, this role will support the purchase ledger function by helping to process supplier invoices, reconcile supplier statements, resolve queries and maintain accurate records. It is a great opportunity for someone who is numerate, reliable and motivated to learn within a supportive and busy finance environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Check and process EPOS paperwork for designated Garden Centres and import information onto the finance system.
  • Raise and help resolve invoice queries with appropriate team members.
  • Process claims for credit notes and chase overdue credits from suppliers.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and obtain and process missing invoices or credit notes.
  • Respond to supplier queries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support the administration of the purchase ledger inbox, ensuring invoices are captured correctly by the document management system.
  • Maintain accurate purchase ledger records and ensure documentation is filed and stored appropriately.
  • Assist with general office duties, including dealing with post, scanning documents, and supporting wider finance administration.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Finance, Garden Centres, and suppliers to support accurate and efficient processing.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
