Due to continued growth and a number of significant contract awards, we are seeking a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Team based in our Edinburgh office.
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to build a career in Quantity Surveying within the Building Services sector. Reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will gain exposure to all aspects of commercial management and contract administration across a range of mechanical and electrical projects, supported by structured training, mentoring and ongoing professional development.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assist with the preparation of monthly Cost/Value Reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
- Support with tender reviews, contract vetting and tender preparation.
- Support the preparation, pricing and tracking of project variations.
- Prepare and issue subcontract tender enquiries and subcontract orders.
- Attend project pre-start, progress and commercial meetings as required.
- Assist with the assessment and processing of subcontractor payments and associated notices.
- Support the preparation and submission of valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
- Work closely with Project Teams to monitor project costs, variations and commercial performance.
- Assist with contract administration, including issuing notices in accordance with contractual requirements and timelines.
- Monitor site progress and maintain accurate commercial records.
- Collaborate with the wider project team and develop an understanding of contractual and commercial matters relating to mechanical and electrical construction projects.
- Undertake any other duties necessary to support the Commercial Team and your professional development.

What We Are Looking For
- Recently completed an HNC, or currently progressing towards an HND, in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Services Engineering or a related construction discipline, with aspirations to progress to a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying.
- Candidates currently progressing towards an HND will also be considered.
- A genuine interest in developing a career in Quantity Surveying within the construction and building services industry.
- Strong numerical, analytical and IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous construction, engineering, building services or commercial experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
