Trainee Sales Team Leader

Birmingham City Centre | Full-Time | Permanent | Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm

Sage operates a strict promote-from-within policy. Management positions are never filled externally; every leader in the business has been developed from an entry-level sales role. This approach maintains consistently high standards across our teams and enables us to scale at pace, and it means the progression offered in this role is structural, not aspirational. Since launching in March 2025, the business has developed and promoted six people from entry-level positions into senior management.

As a Trainee Sales Team Leader, you will learn how to build and manage high-performance sales teams from the ground up, following a defined leadership pathway: Trainee Sales Team Leader, Junior Sales Leader, Sales Manager. Advancement at each stage is assessed against specific metrics and demonstrated capability rather than time served. You will know exactly what is expected of you, and your progress will be reviewed against clear, measurable criteria.

How the pathway works

Trainee Sales Team Leader:

  • A hands-on role learning how to manage sales teams, campaigns, team performance and KPIs
  • Working closely with a senior manager to understand how effective, high-performing sales teams are developed
  • Depending on performance, you may begin managing a small team of one to two people within your first two to four weeks, with the objective of leading a team of seven to ten people within your first six months

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Junior Sales Leader:

  • Continue managing and developing your own team while learning the back end of the business
  • Covering the full operational side, from planning and organisation to performance management

Sales Manager:

  • Full responsibility for a client contract and an entire location and market
  • Including budgets, executive decision-making and the leadership of a team of twenty to fifty people

Progression depends on measurable results, readiness and business need. No promotion is guaranteed or tied to a fixed date, and individual timelines vary.

Why now

The business has expanded into Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Newcastle and Essex in under two years, with further UK growth underway and international expansion into the USA targeted for 2027. Because management roles are only ever filled internally, that growth creates genuine leadership openings for the people already in the business.
