Trainee Shop Manager
Trainee Shop Manager – Canterbury
Hours: 45 hours across 5 days per week.
Pay: £32,648–£35,306 per annum (potential increase to £35,306.88 after 6 months subject to KPIs and progress).

About the Role
Looking for an experienced team leader or supervisor in retail, hospitality, or customer-focused industries. This 18-month trainee shop manager role offers hands-on experience, qualifications, and early progression into permanent management.
Based at our Canterbury shop, this position covers varied shifts over 5 days per week.
Training Involved
1. On-the-job learning (0–3 months)
- Shadow & train under an experienced shop manager
- Grow practical skills in retail management
2. Supported leadership (3–6 months)
- Gradually manage the shop with high-level support from your Area Manager
- Subject to performance review
3. Full responsibility (~6 months onwards)
- Assume full management duties for your shop
- Continue skill development with ongoing Area Manager support

4. Qualifications & additional support ✓ Complete a Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship (Inspiro provider) ✓ Upskilling support for Maths/English (if required) ✔ Full-time pay during training, with permanent position upon successful completion
Key Responsibilities
Shop Operations
- Fully accountable for your shop’s success, including:
- Ensuring customer satisfaction, safe, clean, and tidy shop conditions
- Overseeing daily routines (opening/closing, stock checks, etc.)
- Maintain performance standards across:
- Customer service
- Cash handling
- Health & safety
- Stock management & merchandising
Team Leadership & Development
- Motivate & train your team to operate efficiently
- Lead by example – get involved in daily tasks
- Take full responsibility for recruitment, training, and further development of staff
Cost & Compliance
- Control key costs (payroll accuracy, shrinkage, waste reduction)
- Support DBS check requirements (if applicable)
About You
Essential Qualities
- Proven supervisory experience in retail/hospitality ( industry leadership required)
- Strong drive to progress into a management role
- Friendly, hardworking & ‘people-focused’ approach
- Confident as a team leader, able to inspire reliability & performance
- Organised & calm under pressure – able to manage high-volume, high-energy retail environments
- Skilled at leadership and teamwork, while maintaining strong communication within a small team

Additional Requirements
- Basic DBS Check (England/Wales) or Disclosure Scotland (Scotland) if shortlisted
- Commitment to completing mandatory coursework/papers on time as part of the apprenticeship
