Job Title: Trainee Solar Electrician / Electrical Improver

Location: Reading and surrounding areas

Salary: £25,000 to £35,000 depending on experience

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Trainee Solar Electrician / Electrical Improver to join a growing Solar PV and Battery Installation team working across Reading and the surrounding areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is either part-qualified, currently studying part-time in electrical installation, engineering, or renewable energy, or looking to develop their hands-on experience within the solar and battery storage sector.

The successful candidate will support qualified electricians and installation teams on domestic and/or commercial solar PV and battery projects, gaining valuable site experience while continuing to develop their electrical knowledge and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation of Solar PV systems and battery storage solutions
  • Support electricians with wiring, containment, cable runs, testing preparation, and general electrical works
  • Help with the installation of mounting systems, inverters, batteries, and associated electrical equipment
  • Work safely on domestic and/or commercial sites in line with company procedures
  • Follow technical drawings, installation plans, and site instructions
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
  • Travel to sites across Reading and the surrounding areas
  • Continue developing technical knowledge within electrical installation and renewable energy systems

Requirements

  • Level 3 Electrical Installation qualification, City & Guilds or equivalent
  • Alternatively, currently working towards NVQ Level 3 or similar electrical qualification
  • 18th Edition qualification required
  • Full UK driving licence essential
  • Genuine interest in Solar PV, battery storage, renewables, or electrical engineering
  • Some hands-on electrical or site experience would be beneficial
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a renewable energy installation environment
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and good communication skills
  • Comfortable working as part of a field-based installation team

Ideal Candidate

This role would suit someone who is not looking for an apprenticeship, but is still developing their electrical career. You may be studying part-time, recently qualified at Level 3, or working towards your NVQ Level 3 and looking to gain practical experience within solar PV and battery installations.
