Trainee Teacher – John Taylor MAT
Salary & Funding
Training bursaries/scholarships available up to £30,000 (tax-free). See Bursaries and scholarships | Get Into Teaching. All qualified teachers will earn at least £32,916 per year after completion.
Course fees:
- £9,790.00 (1-year full-time)
- £7,145.00 (per annum for 2-year part-time)
Funding may be available via Student Finance England, including Maintenance Loans. See: Student finance calculator – GOV.UK.
Working Hours & Programme
- Full-time or part-time routes available
- Fixed term: September 2025 – July 2026
Qualifications Required
Minimum Entry Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree (final-year students may apply)
- GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent in:
- Maths
- English (Science also required for Primary applications)

About the John Taylor SCITT
Based at John Taylor High School, Barton under Needwood, the SCITT is part of John Taylor MAT and benefits from partnerships with over 60 local schools across:
- East Staffordshire
- South Derbyshire
- North Warwickshire

Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated professionals* who are committed to becoming highly skilled teachers and dedicated to the growth of young learners.
Core Responsibilities:
- Engage in intensive, residential training at our dedicated Training Centre
- Gain hands-on experience across two schools with regular mentorship from staff specialising in:
- Phase-specific leadership
- Subject pedagogy
- Secondary specialists will receive weekly training in collaboration with experienced practitioners.
- Primary trainees benefit from diverse training opportunities led by local education experts.
- Explore specialised environments such as special schools or Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) to enhance professional development.
- Study collaboratively, with training tailored to national standards and local school industry needs.
