Trainee Yard Operative
Role: Trainee Yard Operative
Location – Newport Depot
General working hours are Monday to Friday, day shift, but occasional weekend work may be required. You must be flexible!

Responsibilities
As a Trainee Yard Operative, you’ll receive hands-on training and guidance while supporting key operational tasks:
- Support Traffic Management Crews:
- Prepare fitted cones, filled sandbags, and signage for use by traffic management teams.
- Equipment Prep & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure correct quantity of traffic signals are fuelled and ready.
- Check all signs and cones for damage and document any issues upon return from sites.
- Signage & Custom Fabrication:
- Train to produce custom signs or modifications as project requirements demand.
- Battery Management:
- Secure, account for, and ensure timely charging of batteries adhering to safety procedures.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Support upkeep by cleaning, resleeving, and marking cones.
- Secure placement of barriers, signs, cones, and sandbags in designated locations.
- General Yard Duties:
- Assist with other duties as directed by the Yard Supervisor.
- Compliance Adherence:
- Strict observance of company guidelines on quality, safety, health, and environmental standards.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive as a Trainee Yard Operative, we seek:
- Full UK Driver’s Licence (Manual only—less than 6 penalty points).
- Right to work in the UK (unrestricted, no sponsorship required).
- Physical fitness to meet demands of a hands-on role.
- Ability to pass alcohol/drug screening.
- A positive, proactive “can-do” attitude.
- Adaptability and flexibility matching the fast-paced environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail and conscientiousness.
