It is important to get a good start to your career in law, and our training programme has been designed to support you in getting the most out of a combination of on-the-job work experience, courses and seminars. We look for high-calibre candidates who can run with the information they're given, deliver an argument, find quick solutions and form strong relationships. Most importantly, we look for trainees who can provide a better future for our clients, for our firm and for themselves.

To us, a diverse workforce is fundamental for a successful business. We welcome applications from graduates who are authentic, confident and collaborative, with a passion for delivering exceptional client service.

We offer traineeships in both our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices. Effective collaboration is key, and we operate a hybrid working model which allows our people to work both in the office and remotely, in a way that enables them to do their best work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Each year, we offer up to 20 legal graduates a two-year legal traineeship. As a trainee, you will spend six months in four different seats, offering you a great insight to life in the legal profession. Whilst a strong academic record is important, we are particularly interested in your personal characteristics.

We look for trainees who are confident and demonstrate a positive ‘can do' approach, naturally good communicators who can establish new and effective relationships with clients and colleagues, and those who enjoy problem-solving and use their initiative.
